The Grassroots Shakespeare Company is seeking talented performers for our ongoing educational tour. Our educational tour includes one-hour cuttings of eight different Shakespeare plays touring to schools, libraries, and parks throughout the state of Utah during the 2026-2027 school year. We are currently seeking to fill roles in Romeo & Juliet, Twelfth Night, and Much Ado About Nothing. Adult actors of all backgrounds, ethnicities, gender identities, body types, and experience levels are encouraged to audition; actors with flexible morning and daytime schedules and actors willing to accept roles and/or understudy tracks in multiple titles are preferred.
(NOTE: In accordance with our original practice mission statement, these performances require limited in-person rehearsal, but extensive personal preparation outside of rehearsal. In-person rehearsal schedules will be worked out based on show schedule and performers’ availability; actors should expect no more than 10-12 hours of in-person rehearsal time per show.)
Date: June 20th, 2026
Time: 2:30-4:30pm
Venue: Scera Center for the Arts, 745 S State St. Orem, UT 84058, Room 201
Please prepare:
All actors will be paid $100 rehearsal stipend per title and $50 per performance.

You will need to fill-out a quick form and confirm that you have received the covid-19 vaccine. You will need to present a 1-minute Shakespearean monologue. If you are invited for callbacks, you will be notified that evening. At callbacks the following morning, auditioners will be split up into groups and perform a quick "jig" incorporating some elements of Original Practice. Following that, you will be asked to present your 1-minute monologue to the group. You will then be asked to perform the monologue again following "what if" prompts from the Grassroots producers and your fellow auditioners-- Likewise, you will be asked to provide "what ifs" to your fellow auditioners.
Grassroots often (but not always) casts shows collaboratively. This means that the people who audition will vote for who they think should be in the cast.
Should you be cast in a Grassroots show, You will learn how to engage in 'Original Practice' methods for presenting a Shakespearean work. Here is a very brief outline of what that looks like:
Additionally, Grassroots often opens a new production with an unrehearsed show. These are some of our most popular shows. You will be given a few weeks to memorize, and then you will be thrown out in front of an audience to make the most of it!
